What is Life Coaching?
Life Coaching is an ongoing relationship between the coach and client that helps you get from where you are to where you want to be. Each of us have areas of our life where we need to improve or get unstuck. A life coach will help you break down the barriers you have placed upon yourself. A focused way to explore dreams, hopes, and fears. Coaching focuses on the client taking action toward realizing their vision, goals, and desires.
The role of the coach is not to TELL the client the answers, but by asking the right questions that cause you to look inside yourself and challenge you to grow and stretch yourself. The life coach will help you unlock the potential that is already in you.
A Christian life coach will help you discover God's calling on your life and how to live out that call. It is designed to help you reach your God given potential. A Christian life coach like Steve will serve you with Biblically based principles and through genuine caring that is based on a love relationship with Jesus Christ.
As your coach, Steve will come alongside you to help you discover new ways of achieving life goals. He doesn't advise you or tell you what to do, but will help you discover something new in your life by giving out powerful questions. Steve will help you to step back and look at your life journey and assist you in looking forward and setting actions plans to reach your goals.
Is Life Coaching Counseling?
No, life coaching is not counseling or therapy. Life coaching moves you forward to change and growth. Coaches do not diagnose problems and prescribe solutions as in counseling. This does not mean that the skills used in coaching do not help to resolve crisis or heal pain. But, that is not the aim of coaching. Life coaching and counseling are very different in practice and philosophy. Counselors want to help people move forward, but counseling is about helping people deal with painful past issues focused on dealing with pain, challenges, struggles. Counseling is moving toward finding healing where coaching focuses on your plans for the future that includes goals, growth, and potential.
“Coaching is an on-going partnership that helps clients produce fulfilling results in their personal and professional lives. Through the process of coaching, clients deepen their learning, improve their performance, and enhance their quality of life. Beginning with the clients’ desires, coaching uses reporting, exploring, and a consistent commitment to move the client forward. Coaching accelerates the clients’ progress by providing greater focus and awareness of choice. Coaching concentrates on where clients are today and what they are willing to do to get where they want to be tomorrow.”
